HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - More than 1,300 people enjoyed a hot Thanksgiving meal Wednesday thanks to volunteers.
Trinity United Methodist Church, with help from volunteers, prepared turkey and all the trimmings and delivered plates to the less fortunate.
This was a huge effort by those just wanting to help.
A special cook used her talents to help those in need.
Cathy Brigg is the former owner of Soul Burger which went out of business in April.
That didn't stop her from using her talents in the kitchen.
"Everybody needs a helping hand," said Briggs. "This is our way of being God's soul servers and going out reaching Huntsville."
Each volunteer had a specific duty and even the youngest helpers got involved.
Some spent their school holiday making a difference in the lives of others.
"We love to come down as a school and basketball team to help others," said volunteer Abby Knowling.
"Its nice to know you can help people," said volunteer Madeline Rushing.
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and volunteers who helped package the food stopped at First Stop on Stokes Street to feed the hungry.
For many who don't have a place to call home or a way to get a hot meal, it's the only Thanksgiving they will have.
Over 100 frozen turkeys were donated by individuals and companies.
It was enough to feed individuals at First Stop, Northwood, Butler Terrace and Sparkman Homes.
