2 positions to be filled for Native American history in Lawrence County

Posted: Updated:

MOULTON, AL (WAFF) - Lawrence County officials will be hiring two people to split the duties of the retiring director of the Oakville Indian Mounds.

One will be an assistant federal programs director who'll spend a lot of time in the classroom with native students. While American Indian education instructors focus primarily on culture, this position will be different.

"This person will now become basically an instructional specialist and strategist for the American Indian population so that we can improve and increase their achievement scores," said Lawrence County Superintendent Heath Grimes.

The salary for the federal programs assistant director will range between approximately $59,000 and $87,000. The salary is paid from federal dollars.
