FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) - Many years ago Todd Gillreath lost his home in a fire.
He sympathized with Helen Holland's predicament when he watched WAFF 48 News' story on the fire that destroyed her Moulton home, just days after she'd been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease.
"I saw the story yesterday evening on the 6:00 news about Mrs. Holland that had been burned out of her house," said Gillreath.
"Randall and I got together and decided to get a hold of ya'll so we could see if we could help the lady," he continued.
Todd contacted fellow members of the church because he knew this family needed to come here to the friendship center at Crosspoint Church of Christ in Florence.
This refuge can help with just about all their needs.
David Westmoreland is a deacon and works at the Friendship Center. He said, "Every Friday we have about 75 people or more coming to get food, and clothing."
Those who need food can receive it once a month and clothing every 3 months.
In addition to food and clothing, they can get furniture.
Westmoreland said one member gave them 64 new beds at one time, saying she had been blessed and she wanted to share.
"We like to put the Lord first, give the Lord credit and we can him working through us," said Westmoreland.
Crosspoint has a lot of cheerful givers who are willing to give this family a hand up, and answer a lot of prayers.
If you would like to contribute to Crosspoint, you can visit their website or call 256-764-4073.
