MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University and the state Division of Energy are getting $500,000 in federal stimulus funds to help businesses in the region save energy, improve the environment and create jobs.
The Save Energy Now program had already won $733,000 in U.S. Department of Energy grants, bringing the total for the program to more than $1.2 million.
The goal is to help companies that consume a lot of energy to become more efficient, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and maintain and create jobs.
The new money allows the team to expand its service region to include eastern Tennessee, central and eastern Kentucky, and southwestern Virginia.
It was already serving West Virginia, western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio.
