Alabama A&M cuts nearly four dozen jobs

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Alabama A&M University announced plans Friday to cut nearly four dozen job involving both full- and part-time employees.

Alabama A&M University President Dr. Andrew Hugine blamed the cuts on deep fiscal problems involving a decline in revenue generated through student enrollment between 2006 through 2008 as well as two straight years of proration in the state education budget.

“We regret that the University must take this course of action, but it is absolutely necessary given the tough economic times," Hugine said in a news release.

The cuts follow other cost-saving measures the University had already adopted which included tuition increases, furloughs and leaving vacant positions open.

Alabama A&M will still have over 1,000 employees despite Friday's job cuts.
