NASHVILLE, TN (WAFF) - A federal judge in Nashville set a January 12 trial date for an Ardmore woman charged with kidnapping a newborn infant.
Tammy Renee Silas is accused of kidnapping Maria Gurrolla's four-day old baby in late September.
She has been held in federal custody since agents raided her home and rescued the child four days after the alleged kidnapping.
Silas sent a letter to two TV stations in Nashville offering her side of the story. A cellmate helped Silas write the letter.
"She wants everyone to know she didn't steal the baby and that police have only told one side of the story," according to the letter WTVF received. Silas' letter goes on to claim she paid $25,000 for the baby.
The baby was reunited with his parents after Nashville Police and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation initially looked into those claims.
Silas remains in federal lockup. The judge in her case has set a deadline of January 4th for any proposed plea agreement to be submitted.
