HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A teacher's aide at a Huntsville school is facing first degree sodomy charges against a child younger than 13.
The man is on paid administrative leave from Providence School.
Huntsville city schools spokesman Keith Ward told WAFF 48 News this is standard procedure when an investigation is launched against a school system employee.
Thirty-three-year-old Michael Horton was arrested Tuesday.
Lt. Jim Cooke of Madison Police said Horton had been under investigation since April and that the alleged incident occurred sometime between July and December of 2008.
Cooke said the child lived here at the time of the incident, but later moved to Dallas, Texas, where the victim reported the assault to authorities.
Ward said Horton was an instructional aide in the physical education department at Providence, which is a K through 8 school.
He also said Horton has been a school system employee for about 10 years.
Horton is free on a $10,000 bond he posted the night he was arrested.
Ward said Horton has not been in Providence School since May.
