HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A rape on the campus of UA-Huntsville has students on edge.
An arrest in the case has been made, but students are wondering how it happened in the first place.
A female student was attacked in the early morning hours in the Central Residence Hall.
The news of a rape on fellow a student sent shock waves across campus.
"Usually security is pretty tight so it's pretty shocking that it has happened," said student Shannon Murphy.
The security on campus is now being called into question.
On any day, students have to swipe a key card to gain access to any building.
In this incident, the suspect was let through the door.
The victim told police she had been raped by the guest of another resident.
Dorm guests are expected to check in by leaving a student identification or a driver's license at the front desk.
"There's a whole check in and check out procedure but it's not like we screen the guests before they come in. You never know who is coming in the doors," said Murphy.
That's why school officials are stressing safety among students and heightening police patrols.
Police were able to make an arrest in this case.
A juvenile fitting the victim's description was arrested and charged with 1st degree rape.
He is being held now at the Neaves David Detention Center in Huntsville.
