SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -Friday the 13th proved unlucky for suspects wanted on drug charges.
A county wide round-up put nearly 3 dozen people in Colbert county behind bars.
This started off as a drug round up by Sheffield police. The arrests were part of a roundup in Colbert county, involving a large number of agencies with warrants in hand.
Many of the suspects had been under investigation for as a long as a year.
Sheffield police chief Greg Ray says of the 70 people wanted on felony and misdemeanor drug charges, over half were arrested and booked into jail.
More than 2 dozen state, local and federal officers met at Sheffield police to pick up folks on this list wanted on various drug charges.
Sheriff Ray says he hopes this operation sends a strong message.
An officer was serving a grand jury indictment on a drug related arrest when he was assaulted. The suspect was charged with second degree assault. The officer was not hurt.
