HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Officials at the University of Alabama at Huntsville said late Friday afternoon that a juvenile was arrested on a first-degree rape charge after a dorm resident reported an alleged sexual assault Thursday night.
According to UA Huntsville police officials, a resident of Central Campus Residence Hall reported to UA Huntsville police she was sexually assaulted in her room by the guest of another resident.
UA Huntsville spokesman Ray Garner said police, with the assistance of other service and law enforcement agencies, investigated the assault throughout the day Friday. They identified the suspect as a visitor to the dorm and not a student, Garner said.
The suspect was being held at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Facility early Friday evening, Garner said.
Anyone with information related to the incident was urged to contact the UA Huntsville Police Department at (256) 824-6911. Officials also urged people on campus to exercise caution while they continue their investigation.
