GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) – Free H1N1 vaccinations were being given out at the Marshall County Health Department on Thursday.
The Marshall County Health Department received 700 H1N1 vaccinations. People from across thel county lined up for the shot.
Health officials said they will continue to give out these vaccinations free of charge until they run out. The vaccines are limited, so they were free for people in the targeted groups.
The targeted groups are: infants, children, and young adults between the ages of 6 months to 24 years old; pregnant women; caregivers for infants younger than 6 months old; healthcare and emergency workers.
Clinic Supervisor Cathi Hughes said the vaccines were free for a reason.
"We're hoping to get the people who are most at risk, most likely to catch the flu and most likely to have bad effects if they do catch it," Hughes said. "We're hoping to protect those people."
The Marshall County Health Department isn't the only clinic offering shots. The DeKalb County Health Department will host a swine flu clinic Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or until supplies run out.
