ARAB, AL (WAFF) - Boy Scouts and line dancers put a new twist on the Veterans Day ceremony in Arab Wednesday afternoon.

Arab leaders hosted their Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans Monument in Arab City Park. The Klassy Kickers kicked off the ceremony with some line dancing to get everyone in the spirit.

The Pledge of Allegiance was read by Arab Boy Scout Troop 60. Hundreds showed up to honor those who serve and those who made the supreme sacrifice.

Marshall County Circuit Judge Tim Riley is also a veteran. He said Wednesday's ceremony was emotional.

"So many people in this county and other counties have answered the call of duty time and time again. They're just so many heroes out here," Riley said.

County Commissioner and veteran William Stricklend agreed.

"It also brings emotion of pride," Stricklend said. "That's the biggest emotion is that our young men and women now are getting the support that they need."

Marshall County Sheriff Scott Walls said the sheriff's department's honor guard has participated in the ceremonies for about 13 years.

"It's really one of those days of year we can thank them for the service of our country and in our communities," Walls said.

Thursday's event had Arab's biggest turnout for their Veterans Day ceremony in the past several years.
