DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - As Americans honor their veterans on Wednesday, there are many who don't have a home. Operation Stand Down is an organization dedicated to giving homeless vets a hand up, and two Decatur bartenders are doing their part to help the project and the vets.
Mona Ball and Brittany Douglas are donating their tips to the organization. Both work at O'Charleys in Decatur. Their tip money will go directly to Operation Stand Down, which assists homeless vets with everything from a simple meal to a place to stay and clothing.
"Our belief is that these are people who once served their country," said Operation Stand Down spokesman Donnie Jones. "They wore the uniform, stood opposed, fought in a war. They served their country and now it's our turn to serve them."
The group goes under bridges and overpasses to get these vets give them food shelter and try to help them get back on their feet.
