Fire that killed Dothan woman under investigation

Associated Press - November 11, 2009 5:04 AM ET

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - Police and fire investigators are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding a storage shed fire that apparently resulted in a Dothan woman's death.

Firefighters responded to a call of a storage shed on fire around 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The body of 55-year-old Vicky Jo Yeager was discovered inside the shed.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said a preliminary examination indicated Yeager died from fume inhalation and flames, but a full autopsy would be conducted.

Byrd said Yeager lived elsewhere but used the residence where the fire occurred as a base for a food catering business.

Interim Dothan Police Chief Larry Draughon said the department is working in conjunction with the state fire marshal in the investigation.

He said a detailed observation is needed and it could take a month or more.
