GERALDINE, AL (WAFF) - Hundreds of students in Geraldine High School and Geraldine Elementary School organized a special Veterans Day program to honor those who served.
Every year the students put on this program in honor of veterans, and on Tuesday there wasn't a dry eye in the gymnasium. The Geraldine High School Gymnasium was filled with hundred of students from high school all the way to elementary school.
Veterans from the Marine's, Army, Navy, and Coast Guard were honored with songs, speeches, and several numbers from the Geraldine High School Band. The students showed a slideshow, using candles and glowsticks.
"It was an emotional time of reflection," said veteran Chandler Harris. "Eenjoyed the program. I thought it was real nice. It's good to honor the people that served."
Chandler's brother Korl Harris agreed, saying, "I think this is about the greatest thing that we've had in a long time."
The third Harris brother, Wayman, said he was most moved by who was hosting the event.
"It's just nice to see all of these school kids in here,' Wayman said. "I think it's a good lesson for them, and they're so polite."
The people at Tuesday's event said this is an ongoing tradition at Geraldine High School. They said it's the best lesson the students could be taught about their veterans.
