HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith congratulated veterans organizations Tuesday morning for their service to returning troops.
Griffith presented American flags from Washington, D.C. and special Congressional resolutions in their honor to representatives from Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Still Serving Veterans (SSV), The Salvation Army, Operation: Stand Down, The Downtown Rescue Mission, and American Legion Posts 287 and 176.
While honoring the troops, Griffith also addressed the current debate over Congressional action on such subjects as healthcare reform and the economic stimulus.
"People are not happy with Congress," he said. "We need to be talking about jobs, job creation. We're at 10.2 percent unemployment, but the real unemployment is closer to 17 percent because those people who have quit looking are not in that statistic."
