Guntersville, AL. (WAFF) - Guntersville Police Officer Jason Austin is at home recovering.
Early Thursday morning, Officer Austin went into surgery to have the bullet removed from his head. WAFF 48 News talked with Officer Austin and he told us he's sore, but the surgery went very well.
Guntersville Police Officer Jason Austin was shot in the head during a high speed police chase on September 21st, 2009. Miraciously, Austin survived, but the bullet was lodged just above his right ear.
At 9:30 Thursday morning Austin went into surgery, so doctors could remove the bullet. He was conscious during the surgery and it lasted about 10 minutes.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigations picked up the bullet and have placed it into evidence.
Austin said he'll continue to get some rest and recover. He wants to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
