HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The case of a teenager on trial for murder is now in the hands of a jury.
17-year-old Michael Steger is charged with reckless murder for the 2007 death of 16-year-old Jamie Collier.
Wednesday morning, Steger took the stand in his defense.
Steger is accused of firing a shot after a fight broke out at Yale Circle and Mount Vernon Road in Huntsville.
The bullet killed collier.
Steger told the jury he got the gun after he was jumped on by several people and he feared for his life.
He told the jury that when he raised the gun it went off and the bullet ricocheted off the ground then hit collier.
While on the stand, Steger also apologized to Collier's family.
