GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A Guntersville teen accused in the slaying of his girlfriend's father had his bond reduced Wednesday.
Alex Walley, 18, was charged with the murder of Carl Howard, 52. Investigators said Walley and Howard got into an argument at his home off Bethel Chapel Road in Guntersville.
Investigators say the murder began as an argument over a wrecked vehicle. Police tell us the two argued all day before Walley pulled a gun and shot Howard.
Howard's family was in the courtroom Wednesday when Walley waived his right to a preliminary hearing. The case will now go to a grand jury.
Also on the agenda was a defense motion to reduce Walley's bond. Walley's defense attorneys Robert Tuten and Marshall County District Attorney Steve Marshall presented both arguments on the bond reduction.
"We talked to the judge about a bond reduction and presented our arguments on that. The bond was reduced from $1 million to $500,000."
"We're appreciative of the fact the judge recognized the severity of the offense, maintained a substantial bond so we can attempt to sure he stays in jail and is not in the public," Marshall said.
A youthful offender application has been filed in this case. Marshall said he plans to fight it and ask the grand jury to return an indictment for murder.
