ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The minutes after an accident are critical in saving life. That's why about a dozen firefighters went through some special training Tuesday.
11 firemen from surrounding counties attended a class to learn how to rescue victims trapped during an accident.
A and B wrecker service donated several cars, to help these firemen learn how to save someone trapped inside.
Each firemen learned how to use hydraulic tools, cutters, and the jaws of life.
"Once we arrive on the scene of an automobile accident, our goal is to have that patient extracted and ready to transfer within 10 minutes because time is very crucial to a severally injured patient," said Roger Lathan, a training officer.
Lathan says victims can also do something to help.
He says if the victim is conscious, they should try to unlock the doors, but most importantly try to remain calm.
