DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - A Decatur woman is realizing a long-held dream to help other women and children in need.

She has started a non-profit to support single mothers.

The seed was planted 16 years ago when she gave birth to her first child as a single mom, now that dream is beginning to materialize.

Jennifer Hill remembers the help she received as a scared single mom in need, and through a one-story building at 13 Vine in Decatur, she hopes to pay it forward.

"I had a couple of very strong women that took time to mentor me and support me. In my endeavor in being a successful parent," Hill said.

It was an experience that inspired her to start A Mothers' Care Support Services.

"We'll be offering pre-natal educational guidance, post-partum non-medical support and care, GED testing and training, jobs skills, employability workshops," she said.

Hill also hopes to provide a 24-hour daycare to employ single moms and provide childcare for them.

Glenda Dubak is a former teacher of Hill's who urged her to follow her dream and is helping her along the way.

From laying down tile to putting paint on the walls, these women said they've done everything they can, and now they need some help to get the building up to code.

"Right now, we're in a position where we really need money, and we need money desperately. We need probably 10,000 dollars to get this building opened. And the building needs to be opened," Dubak said.

Major repairs must be done before the first women will be able to follow in Hill's footsteps towards employability and independence.

If you can help give A Mothers' Care Support Services Jennifer Hill a call at: (256)326-9787 or Glenda Dubak (256) 652-7146.
