HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - UA Huntsville is under fire from a state lawmaker who called on the university to drop plans to extend benefits to same-sex partners.
"Liberal, politically correct college activists are free to push whatever agenda they want, but they should do it on their own time and with their own money, not the taxpayers," Duwayne Bridges said.
UA Huntsville released a statement, saying: "The university made the decision in the context of one of our strategic goals, which is to create a positive, supportive work environment in which faculty and staff can excel."
The coverage at UA Huntsville becomes effective Jan. 1. Bridges said he is considering legislation to take state funding from institutions who offer domestic partner benefits.
