GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A Marshall County woman attacked with a brush axe is in the hospital tonight.

Teresa Baker's neighbor said her son whacked her in the head at her home off Scottsboro Highway in Marshall County.

Investigators arrested her 22-year-old son.

He is charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder.

Randall Bing came to Baker's rescue. He said he was scared for his own life during the incident.

"I hear a scream, 'you just killed me this time,'" said Bing.

He said he was in his kitchen Tuesday night when he heard his neighbor yell for help.

"Well I run out and see my neighbor running from this house here down the driving way," said Bing.

He saw his neighbor, Teresa Baker, running toward him with blood gushing from her head.

"She comes running over, more or less jumps in my arms and she's got a gash in her head," explained Bing.

He ran inside to call police, grabbed a towel and his gun, then he held Baker and put pressure to the wound on her head.

The whole time, he kept his gun pointed at Baker's 22-year-old son, Jonathan.

"I could see blood going down her neck and I didn't know what happened. I was really worried about my wife and my kids," said Bing.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office arrived at the house within minutes and Jonathan Baker was taken into custody.

He'd only been living with his mother about three weeks and investigators said this wasn't their first altercation.

For neighbors like Bing, he fears for what could happen if Jonathan is released from jail.

"I hope he doesn't get out of jail and everything. I don't want to be gone to work and my wife and three kids, something happen to them. I don't know what I'd do," he said.

The victim, Teresa Baker, has been hit hard this week.

Monday, another house that Baker owned burned to the ground.

Guntersville Fire Marshall Jim Moon said Baker left her house Monday to take a short trip to the store.

When she returned, her house was engulfed in flames.

Moon said evidence found at the fire determined it was intentionally set.

Her son was home at the time, but claimed he had nothing to do with the arson.

Baker lost everything in the fire.

Teresa Baker was taken to Huntsville Hospital. WAFF 48 News called to check on her condition and was told due to legal reasons, the hospital cannot comment on her condition.
