No-kill shelter gets financial legs

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - A check for $1,000 will go a long way for the Morgan County Humane Society's no-kill shelter, according to Executive Director Robyn Purdy.

"This means, finally, we can open a no-kill shelter in Morgan County. All the land you see behind us is donated. 8.6 acres," said Purdy.

They have big plans for the shelter, including education.

"Once we get on our feet, we are going to have children come out and learn how to treat animals right," said Education Coordinator Sherry Mayes.

"At Walmart we are big into the community, giving back to the community. The community is so good to Walmart," said the Hartselle Walmart Assistant Manager, Kathy McWhirter.

She said this is one project where they know they can help. And the Morgan County Humane Society is grateful.

Since the facility is just being built, they need supplies, volunteers and even walls. But there is something you can do to help.

That means contributions. It could be in terms of building materials, money or sweat equity.
