FLORENCE, AL (WAFF)  In the Shoals, there is a new attraction for Halloween, and it is a place that has been off limits until now.

Sweetwater Plantation is located off Florence Boulevard.  It was once the home of an Alabama governor.  It was built in 1832.

For years, this abandoned home has been vandalized by trespassers.

To try to help restore the home, the owner of the home has decided to give tours of the property.

Some say it is haunted.

This includes a tour around the home, and to the cemetery located on the property.

"The money from the tours goes into a restoration fund," said Charlotte Dean, from Cypress Realty, who manages the property, "(The owner) wants the property to be given back to the people of Florence."

The owner hopes eventually to open the home for community events.

Visitor will not be allowed to enter the home, due to safety concerns.  Tours start at 6:30 every night until Halloween.
