HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -  With health care reform taking center stage, we haven't heard much lately about how billions of dollars are being spent with economic stimulus money.

Alabama has reported its stimulus spending on a website for accountability just for you to check out.

www.stimulus.alabama.gov will give you pin-point accuracy on where your stimulus dollars are being spent.

The goal of stimulus money was and has always been to create or retain jobs.

On the website you will find much of the money awarded to the state of Alabama goes straight into education.

In the Tennessee Valley, money is heading into places like city and county governments.

The City of Madison still plans to use much of its money for energy saving upgrades like installing motion censor lights in city facilities and replacing street lights.

Other places like the Meridianville Fire Department will move into a facility that's up to par.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provided the station with $700,000 to build the new station.

Traffic congestion along Memorial Parkway in Huntsville should become a lot smoother thanks to new overpasses.

Department of Transportation managers said federal stimulus money will pay for lane expansions similar to the overpass under construction on South Parkway.

The website will even show you just how many small businesses needed financing just to keep their doors open and people working.

Those businesses range from clothing boutiques to bar-b-que joints and fitness centers, places that otherwise may have had to close their doors due to hard times.
