ROGERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) Rain caused serious problems in the Shoals Thursday. More than a dozen roads were closed, and some schools let out early.
Heavy rain started pounding the Shoals Wednesday night. The rain continued Thursday.
"We believe some of those areas have picked up between four and five inches," said Lauderdale County EMA Director George Grabryan.
Drivers had to use caution as many road experienced flash flooding.
"When rains like this," said Melinda Brown, a Rogersville resident, "The ditches just over-flood."
Fourteen roads in Lauderdale County were closed due to flooding. (Click here for a list of closed roads.) Most of the roads were located in the eastern part of the county. Turner Lindsey Road, near Rogersville, had several feet of water and a strong current.
"We would certainly like anyone out driving, if they see a barricade or water across the road, not to go through that," Grabryan said.
Several homes received minor wind damage. But Rogersville resident Edna Kelley had another problem. Her front lawn had flooded.
"The water comes down this was from the subdivision up there," said Kelley. "Covers my whole yard."
A home near Kelley's received a small amount of flooding in their garage. Many residents said they have seen enough rain and are ready to dry out.
"I hope it stops raining," added Kelley.
"I hate it," said Brown.
Lauderdale County schools let out early Thursday due to the threat of flash flooding.
