JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- Labor day picnics were held all across Valley on Monday, but for one particular small town, it's more than a holiday, it's a tradition.

The city of Section has been hosting a Labor Day celebration for 35 years. It's a time for all ages to get out, enjoy the sun, and have a great time.

Hundreds of people came to celebrate Labor Day Monday at the Section Community Park in Jackson County.

"It's a fun day, where people can come down here, nothing's charged except for food they'll be rides, entertainment, provided by the city of section and donations," said event cooridinator Johnny Jackson.

For the kids, inflatables lined the baseball field.

"It's refreshing for the kids to get out and meet other people. We love watching the young kids sing and dance like they do," said Noreen Pegg, who has attended the event for several years.

One of the big highlights was the returning performance of the SCC Allstar Cheerleading Squad. This was the sixth year the squad has performed at this event.

"We just love doing anything for the community. We enjoy it and Section has been kind enough to invite us out every year. We love coming out here it's a great time," said cheerleader Shasta Stinnett.

Dozens of singers also took the stage to entertain the crowd. Others played games or enjoyed the car show. Johnny jackson says this is what the holidays are all about.

"Different areas have got the day that they signify as 'their' day for people over the years to come and enjoy each other's company, and ours has been Labor Day," Jackson said.
