Second Gilby bank robbery suspect arrested

Associated Press - September 3, 2009 12:45 PM ET

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A second suspect in an armed bank robbery in the northeastern North Dakota town of Gilby is in custody after a traffic stop in Minnesota.

Minnesota authorities say 46-year-old William Collins of Nashville, Tenn., was stopped by a Highway Patrol officer for speeding outside Detroit Lakes late Tuesday. Authorities later discovered the car had been stolen from a Florida dealership.

The FBI earlier issued an arrest warrant for Collins in the May 26 heist in which more than $50,000 was stolen from the Bremer Bank branch in Gilby.

Another suspect in the robbery, Clifton Patterson of Grand Forks, was arrested earlier this summer in Mississippi, where he used to live, and later jailed in Grand Forks.
