KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The state attorney general has cleared Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale of wrongdoing involving questionable spending practices by his administration.
Attorney General Robert Cooper concluded after a yearlong investigation there were no grounds for criminal charges or ouster proceedings against Knox County's top elected official.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the findings released Tuesday followed a series of audits that found sloppy record-keeping and questionable spending on county credit cards and community grants.
Several county commissioners say they are eager to put the issues to rest.
Ragsdale said he knew "this day was coming that everything would be cleared."
