Lexington, AL (WAFF)- Severe weather pounded the Shoals first thing Thursday morning.  Many streets were flooded, and several trees were uprooted.

One family in Lexington had quite a surprise when they looked out their window.  A huge water oak tree looked like it exploded.  Huge branches were scattered all over their yard.

Margaret Green, who lives on highway 64 in Lexington, was in bed when the first round of severe weather came through Wednesday night.

"We were watching the news," said Green, "We heard a roar, like a train.  We thought something hit the house."

They found several shingles had been ripped from their roof.  They did not think anything about it and went back to bed.

"Got up at 6 this morning," said Green, "Found that this tree had fallen everywhere."

A large water oak tree looked like it had been hit by lightning.  All the branches had been blown off.  The tree was rotten inside, so winds could have knocked it down.

Storms also brought a lot of rain.

At McFarland Park, in Florence, flooding was a problem.  But the park remained opened.

"I am surprised," said Ramona Martin, who lives in her boat at the Florence Marina, beside the park, "It flooded the little bridge by the overpass."

Martin says the weather got rough.

"About 10:30 last night a big gust of rain came through," she said, "Started blowing everything off the boat docks."

Trees were blown down through out the Shoals.  At least 2 homes received damage after trees hit them.

No one was hurt.
