ACCRA, Ghana (AP) - President Barack Obama says his trip to Africa at the end of a whirlwind world tour is designed to illustrate that "Africa is not separate from world affairs."
The U.S. president made his comment Saturday at the start of a busy visit to the continent of his ancestors. Obama told Ghana's President John Atta Mills that U.S. leaders often take a weeklong trip to Africa but seldom integrate it into their global travel. Obama says he wants to take an approach that shows Africa's ties to international policies.
Obama says "what happens here has an impact everywhere."
Obama earlier visited Russia and attended a G-8 summit in Italy.
