UPDATE: Fire at vacant Hospitality Inn intentionally set, according to Birmingham Fire

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham firefighters say the fire Tuesday morning at the vacant Hospitality Inn on 7th Avenue South was intentionally set.

Five buildings are a total loss, according to Battalion Chief Sebastian Carillo.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

"I've never seen anything like that in my life, I've never seen a fire blazing like that," said Hunter Freiberg, who works nearby.

“I had no idea how bad it was going to be until they started fighting the fire, and then you could start seeing flames coming from the roof,” said Kris Genschmer who saw the fire while walking to work.

This is a developing story.
