Fayetteville fire chief resigns

FAYETTEVILLE, TN (WAFF) - Fayetteville Fire Chief Coby Moon has resigned, according to a statement from the city.

Moon was suspended by the city on Monday. The city administrator told WAFF that the suspension was over a complaint. The nature of that complaint could not be confirmed.

This is the statement provided by city administrator Scott Collins on Thursday:

City of Fayetteville Fire Chief Coby Moon resigned his position with the Fayetteville Fire Department on this date, February 21, 2019, effective immediately. Due to his resignation, no further comments will be issued at this time. We wish Coby Moon the best in his future endeavors.

The city administrator said Capt. Jeff Smartt has been named as the interim chief and Lt. Carlos Hadley has been named interim captain.
