Suspect pleads guilty in Huntsville wreck that killed pregnant woman

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Dennis Hammond pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of murder after a 2017 wreck that left a pregnant woman and her baby dead.

Hammond was under the influence when he crossed over a turn lane on Jordan Lane and hit Danetria Rice head on.

Rice was taken to the hospital where she died. Her baby also survived the wreck but later died at the hospital after being listed in critical condition.

Rice’s husband Joel Johnson was driving their vehicle and survived the wreck.

Hammond was set to go to trial Monday morning but pleaded guilty. His sentencing is set for May 16th.
