Sheffield Council challenges police chief’s hiring

SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) - City council members want a Colbert County circuit judge to examine the process used to hire a police chief, including the board’s promotion of Capt. Ricky Terry to police chief.

Councilwoman Penny Freeman said the council voted 5-1 to hire an attorney to file an action in Circuit Court on behalf of the city council since City Attorneys Keith Worsham and Steve Baccus represent both the city and Civil Service Board.

Mayor Ian Sanford cast the lone vote against taking court action. Efforts to reach the mayor Wednesday were unsuccessful.
