Family drops lawsuit over teen killed by Priceville police officer

PRICEVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The family of a 15-year-old killed by police last year has dropped their lawsuit against the officer who fired the shots. The decision came after seeing body and dash camera videos of the June 2017 shooting.

15 year old Gabriel Barnes was shot eight times following a pursuit when he rammed a stolen car into Priceville officer Bryan Smith’s patrol car and quote “crushed” him. The pursuit ended in Huntsville off Bob Wallace and I-565.

The Madison County district attorney’s office has maintained that the shooting was justified.

Barnes' family filed a lawsuit earlier this year over the shooting. However, the family’s attorney says that after watching dash cam and body cam footage of the incident, they realized the suit was not winnable.
