AUBURN, AL (WAFF) - The Fyffe Red Devils have completed an undefeated season and secured the 2A state football title.
The Red Devils (15-0) won a tightly contested game against a stout Luverne (13-2) team.
Fyffe relied on its defense to hold on to two point lead in the final minutes to get a 21-19 victory.

HOW THE GAME WAS WON
Fyffe struck first in the first quarter with a run from Payton Anderson to take the 7-0 lead.
Luverne responded with a potential touchdown, but the call was overturned. The Tigers settled for a field goal to make the game 7-3. A Fyffe fumble in the second quarter gave Luverne good field position and the Tigers hit another field goal to make the score 7-6 going into the half.
Anderson’s number was called again in the third quarter when he scored from 33 yards out. Fyffe took the 14-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
Luverne looked to be making a rally with 12:00 minutes left in the game. The Tigers scored on an 8-yard run and attempted, but failed, on the 2-point conversion to make the score 14-12.
The Red Devils would later complete a huge pass to advance to the Tiger’s 30 yard line.
Fyffe would score on the next play to take the 21-12 lead. However, Luverne was not ready to call it quits. The Tigers connected on a 46-yard pass to set up for a touchdown to make the score 21-19 with less than 3:00 in the game.
Luverne attempted an onside kick, but it was recovered by Fyffe. Luverne had one final chance, but the Red Devil defense held strong.
