Company replaces Madison County woman’s aging roof for free

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A miracle just in time for the holidays. A woman desperately in need of a new roof couldn’t afford it, and just when she thought there was no one to help a total stranger stepped in.

Denise Erskine works with Hope Community Church. She does outreach programs across Madison County. She says she passed by this woman’s home for years, and one day stopped by just to check on her.

“It was ironic that I stopped by, and she had just went to an agency and they had turned her down. She told me 'I can’t believe this! Apparently, you were God sent," Erskine said.

For months the lady tried to find anyone who could help her with a new roof. Randomly she found help in a stranger.

“This was someone who - two weeks ago when it rained, a room flooded in her home, and there’s nothing she could do about it. She’s not a roofer. She didn’t have the means to provide this," Beth Jett Gentry said.

After speaking with the lady, Erksine contacted Gentry with C&K Roofing and Construction Services. Without second thought, C&K agreed to get the job done...FOR FREE!

“Hopefully we’ll have made her life better, and her family’s life.”

“I think it is incumbent upon people who have blessings and comfort to look for those who don’t. Reach out to them and help them," Gentry said.

“I’ve been trying for a long time to get one. I was telling them that I didn’t know how to express myself," the homeowner said.

The project usually costs upwards of $4,000.

“We all go through trials and tribulations. We all have a cross to bear, and it’s okay to tell someone that you’re struggling," Gentry said.
