Arrest warrant scam shows up in Huntsville area

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Authorities have a warning about a scam that’s making the rounds in the Huntsville area. The Madison County circuit clerk said two people have already fallen victim, and they’ve received numerous other calls about it.

The clerk’s office reports that citizens are getting a call from a local number and the person on the line says they are Lt. Pryce (badge number 1711) and that there are two warrants for the person’s arrest. One warrant is for contempt of court. The other is for failure to appear for jury duty.

The fake officer instructs the citizen to purchase a MoneyPak card or prepaid debit card for various amounts. The clerk’s office states they have heard anywhere from $325 to $900.

The court system will never ask for money over the phone. The clerk’s office only accepts cash in person, money orders or cashier’s checks. The court administrator’s office sends jury notices to the homes of potential jury members but would not have an officer call someone and ask for money.
