HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville police have captured a counterfeiting suspect and are asking the public’s help in identifying another.

Police arrested 40-year-old Scott Crook on Friday. An anonymous tip from a citizen that morning led to his capture. He is charged with first-degree possession of a forged instrument and first-degree theft by deception.

Crook was wanted for allegedly using counterfeit $100 bills. Investigators say he used a fake bill at a business and received change for it in October. Police say several other business were also victims.

Upon his arrest, it was discovered he had six more of the counterfeit bills on him, according to police.

Police are still trying to identify the other suspect seen on video using the same type of bill with the same serial number. He was at a local business in Five Points last week.

Investigators say it was a $10 bill that was washed and reprinted as a $100. The pen to mark fake bills may not work on this one.

The victim found the bill was fake when they tried to make a deposit and the bank’s machine detected it as fake.
