New Athens High School opening delayed again

Weather-dependent projects could delay Athens High opening

ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - The new high school in Athens will not be ready to open Monday as planned.

Athens City Schools Superintendent Trey Holladay made that announcement Thursday afternoon. The school system isn’t currently ready to put an opening date out, but Holladay said it will be after the holidays.

This is the second time the opening of the school has been delayed.

Rain delayed some key projects around the school, including walkways, parking lots and turning lanes on Highway 31.
