Guntersville police asked people in the area to stay away from the plant and stay inside their homes as the chemical can act as an irritant to the skin and eyes. The leak has since been sealed.

Fire Chief Brian Waldrop says the leak was finally stopped Thursday afternoon by a Huntsville Fire Department Hazmat team. Now, they’re trying to determine how to best release the ammonia gasses out of the building without causing harm to residents living close to the plant.

Workers were initially evacuated and later sent home.
