Ohio fugitives captured in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Two wanted fugitives from Ohio was taken into custody in Huntsville Tuesday afternoon.

It started when U.S. marshals executed a search warrant at a home on Shady Lane. Police said that’s when 22-year-old Cornelius Phillips and 23-year-old Dasia Crutcher barricaded themselves inside.

They have warrants out of Richland County, Ohio.

Authorities were able to get Phillips out of the house by talking to him by cellphone. He reportedly walked out of the house and surrendered.

Police confirm Phillips has escape warrants. He was mistakenly released from jail in Richland County, Ohio earlier this month. He was considered armed and dangerous, according to our sister station in Cleveland.

Authorities in Ohio say Phillips was being held on drug possession, endangering children, and other charges when he was released.

RichlandSource.com reports Crutcher was wanted for complicity to escape for helping Phillips.

Both will be sent back to Ohio to face new charges.
